Places to Visit

From Chez Michelle and Samoens

For those with or without their own transport, a gentle stroll through the Samoens farming hamlets of Vallon d’en Bas and Vallon d’en Haut is an absolute must and literally right on the doorstep of Chez Michelle.

If you do have your own transport and feel like exploring other areas of the French Alps and even Switzerland or Italy for a bit of variety, there are also plenty of beautiful villages, towns and cities nearby to visit. Chamonix, Annecy, Yvoire, Evian les Bains, Geneva and Aosta are all an easy drive away from Chez Michelle.

Chamonix (France)

One of the most popular places to visit and only a 45-minute drive from Samoens is Chamonix – a charming alpine town much bigger than Samoens. You can take the cable car to the peak of the Aiguille du Midi in the shadow of Mont Blanc at nearly 4000m.

Annecy (France)

Only 45 minutes away from Samoens, the historic lakeside medieval town of Annecy is the capital of the Haute-Savoie and is internationally famous for its beauty. The castle, canal walks, beautiful quays and excellent shopping and restaurants are well worth a visit.

The medieval village of Yvoire

Yvoire (France)

On the shores of Lake Geneva are many impressive beaches, towns and villages, including the 14th century walled village of Yvoire which still retains the castle, doors and ramparts of its past. Yvoire is also ranked one of the International Laureates of Floral Decorations.

Evian les Bains (France)

Just along the Lake from Yvoire is the spa town of Evian les Bains, internationally renowned for its thermal baths. Evian also boasts an aquatic centre with a heated 50m Olympic swimming pool, practice pool, paddling pools and a 160m long waterslide – one of the longest water slides in Europe!

Lake Geneva is only a 1-hour drive from Samoens

Geneva (Switzerland)

The international city of Geneva is only an hour’s drive from Samoens. Rich in museums, art galleries, parkland, shops and restaurants, you can easily absorb yourself in the life and culture of this famous city with its landmark fountain on the Lake.

Aosta (Italy)

Driving through the Mont Blanc tunnel you enter northern Italy into the Valle d’Aosta where you can explore the town of Aosta with its Roman and medieval monuments, the Parco Nazionale del Gran Paradiso and the ski resort of Courmayeur-Entreves.
